ExactScan Pro or OCRKit?

While our ExactScan Pro and Enterprise come with the same OCR engine built-in as our OCRKit, both programs are optimized for different use cases:

ExactScan Pro is optimized seamless Searchable PDF creation while scanning. While batch processing existing files it will apply all settings from the currently active scan profile, such as resolution, color, brightness, contrast, the scan area crop, and all the other image processing functions. It will even use the same digital image imprinter to add watermarks to the images.
This does not only match the general workflow of ExactScan, it also allows to modify existing files in various way. For example this can be used to improve colors and contras of previous scans, or to intenionally create lesser quality copies –maybe even with an watermark– for distribution.

OCRKit on the other hand is optimized to just add OCR text layer, while leaving the PDF’s images as original as possible.

So you can choose the best fits to your workflow. You probably want to use OCRKit for pure PDF conversions and ExactScan if you mostly scan paper using a scanner.

AppStore ore classic, direct license?

While many users nowadays intuitively and instantly purchase a software license in Apple's AppStore, this is not really the best option for users and developers.
Let us explain:

Updates in the AppStore always go thru Apple's review. This means updates are usually a bit delayed, sometimes even for weeks or months if our updates are rejected at random.

A big problem for developers is the 30% fee Apple takes from the sales. This is a significant portion that is missing in our budget for development, support and testing. Together with VAT this means we receive less than 50% of the sales prices. Purchasing directly from developers makes sure you invest into the people who actually develop and maintain your software.

Apple also only pays approximately 30 days after the end of each month, so from the first sale on a months' 1st day it takes a whopping 60 day for us to pay salaries and other administrative, running costs.

As we can also set one price tier for the whole world, prices vary widely in the different regions, and we can not set a slithly lower price for developing markets.

Like many other developers we therefore ask users to consider purchasing a license directly from the developer. We often offer a lower price, while earning more, and also have the money earlier to pay our salaries ;-)
